Under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), 36 banks including 27 public sector and eight private sector banks conducted a countrywide campaign in which a total of 2,13,63,142 bank accounts were opened in 14 days from August 16-29, 2014.In the process the PMJDY Mission set two other world records: i) most bank accounts opened in a single day – 52,48,906 accounts on August 28, 2014 and ii) most in a week – 1,80,96,130 bank accounts in seven days from August 23-29, 2014. 
PMJDY is a national mission for financial inclusion and universal access to banking facilities, announced on August 15, 2014 and officially launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 28, 2014. It is spearheaded by the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance, Govt of India.
