To celebrate the first International Day of Yoga on June 21, 2015, the Union Ministry of AYUSH organised a massive Yoga lesson, in which 35,985 participants performed 21 asanas (postures) for 35 minutes at Rajpath in New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and dignitaries from 84 nations were among the participants. Following the inaugural speech by the PM, the four instructors started the demonstration of yogasanas on the main stage, which was streamed live on 32 LED screens for the participants to follow. The participants included school children, NCC volunteers, armed forces personnel, women police officers, teams from yoga institutions, political leaders, union ministers, diplomats and foreign nationals.
