St Xavier’s Church, South Thanissery, Kerala organised the largest Margam Kali with 646 women parishioners, aged between 7-90 years, at St Antony’s Girls High School Ground on April 16, 2015. The programme began at 7.00pm with the lighting of the lamp and the dance lasted for 20 min.
Margam Kali is a dance traditionally performed by the Syrian Christians of Kerala. Generally 12 women (representing the 12 disciples of Christ) wearing white chatta, mundu (blouse and dhoti) and prominent ear and ankle jewellery, dance around a traditional lit lamp which represents Jesus Christ, and the songs for the performance narrate the story of St Thomas, the Apostle of India.
