Special Olympics Bharat has 11,52,972 athletes registered across 679 districts of India under their purview as of March 2015. Special Olympics, accredited by Special Olympics Inc, specially cater to athletes with intellectual disabilities and those who have an IQ below 70. Air Marshal Denzil Keelor, PVSM,KC, AVSM, VrC, is the CEO of Special Olympics Bharat.
In the international and and national competitions, besides the gold, silver and bronze medals, athletes up to 8th place are awarded special ribbons of various colours.
