Why is phosphoric acid used in some Coca‑Cola drinks?

We use a very small amount of phosphoric acid in some of our soft drinks, such as Coca‑Cola, Diet Coke, Coke Zero and Thums Up to help give them their bite. It is a safe food additive approved by all of the national health authorities in the more than 200 countries in which we operate, including FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India).
