Pran (August 15, 1938 – August 5, 2014), was a cartoonist best known as the creator of Chacha Chaudhary (1971). He also created other characters like Shrimatiji, Pinki, Billoo, Raman and Channie Chachi. He started his cartooning career in 1960 in Daily Milap. Chacha Chaudhary was the first Indian comic character to be made into a television character. The comics are brought out by Diamond Comics, New Delhi. It has been brought out in 10 different languages all over India. Two of the Chacha Chaudhary episodes are on permanent display at the International Museum of Cartoon Art, Florida, USA. In 1994, he was chosen as one of the People of the Year by Limca Book of Records. He also received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001 from the Indian Institute of Cartoonists.
