In continuation of its recycling efforts, Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages (HCCB) has installed Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs) at select public places, so that they aid in the recycling of PET bottles.

Installed on an experimental basis, the RVM helps citizens put their disposable PET bottles in this machine which converts it into flakes. After the plastic is flaked, it is carried away for being used as raw material for the manufacture of a number of everyday use products.

A solution like this adds to the recycling effort by the community by involving more people. RVMs at public places will help complement the efforts of safaii mitras and other recycling effort. Since the PET bottles will be disposed, often immediately after consumption of the beverage, the problem of urban litter can also be addressed.

The RVMs installed by HCCB also reward the user by handing him electronic cash, should he wish to enter his mobile number. The e-cash can be used to buy a variety of products and services.
