Govt of India in collaboration with global social media platform Twitter started Twitter Samvad, enabling the citizens to receive tweets on news updates and emergency notifications from various govt departments and the political leaders in the form of SMS on their cell phones anywhere in the country. The service was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his meeting with Twitter Chief Executive Dick Costolo in New Delhi on March 24, 2015. To receive a curated set of tweets through the day from a govt department, the user needs to give a missed call to the Twitter account number of the particular govt office.
Twitter Samvad, a part of the Prime Minister’s Digital India initiative, is powered by Bengaluru-based ZipDial, an Indian company acquired by Twitter.
