Dibrugarh District Administration of Assam planted 22,084 saplings on either side of the 56.3 km road from Moran to Naharkatia in 22 min starting at 11.00 am and completed by 11.22 am on July 7, 2015. To protect the saplings from animals they were covered with bamboo cages keeping a gap of 5 m between the saplings. There was a variety of trees from ornamental trees, fruit bearing, medicinal plants and timber yielding trees.
The entire operation linked to MGNREGA was organised by the Deputy Commissioner of Dibrugarh, MS Manivannan, IAS engaging 1,100 people. Participants from gram panchayats and the Forest Department were also involved. The Administration assured job cards for two years to the 1,100 persons under MGNREGA to protect the saplings. Each person gets 100 days of work in a year.
