Rhodiola, a wonder herb found in the Himalayas, is being studied by the Leh-based Defence Institute of High Altitude Research for its therapeutic values. Seen as the modern Sanjeevani, the mythical herb that gave renewed life to Lakshman in the epic Ramayana the herb, locally known as Solo, has immune enhancing, adaptogenic (ability to adapt to difficult climate conditions) properties, which can mitigate the effects of gamma radiation caused by biochemical warfare. It also has anti-depressant and appetite increasing properties.
