Higginbothams, the oldest bookshop in India, was opened in 1844 by Abel Joshua Higginbotham in Madras (now Chennai, Tamil Nadu). It has a subscription division that helps educational institutions, corporate bodies and professionals to get journals and periodicals from more than 3,000 publishing houses abroad. Another special feature is its mobile bookshop, which covers the entire city every week, including rural areas, catering to readers in remote places.
