JanBus (People’s Bus), the first fully-flat floor, front-engine bus with single-step entry and air suspension was launched by Ashok Leyland Ltd in Kolkata on July 30, 2014. Of the 449 JanBuses ordered by the West Bengal government, the first lot of 32 units was transported from the company’s plant in Alwar, Rajasthan to Kolkata by a single train. Powered by a 225 hp, BS4, CRS diesel engine, JanBus holds four patents for its unique features. The uniform floor height – 650 mm – makes passenger movement in the bus hassle-free.
