To create awareness on care of pregnant women, lactating mothers and new born babies and to prevent malnutrition and maternal and infant deaths, 458 health workers of Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) participated in a campaign headed by Dr Sagar Mane, a gynaecologist who has been working on malnutrition and maternal health for over 10 years, at Phaltan, Satara, Maharashtra on Oct 12, 2014. The participants were divided into 10 groups. Photographed wearing orange ribbons, the universal symbol of malnourishment, they carried ‘Care maternal health, Cure malnourishment’ placards. Lectures were held on countering malnutrition, breastfeeding from the first hour of the child’s birth to at least six months, nutritious diets, importance of iron tablets, vitamin A, periodic deworming etc.
