On Jan 21, 1998, Sony Entertainment Television (SET) and Fireworks Productions (BP Singh and Pradeep Uppoor) launched CID, a weekly crime thriller about a team of detectives belonging to the Crime Investigation Department in Mumbai. Aired on SET, CID is an investigative series consisting of hardcore police procedural stories and the main protagonist of the show is ACP Pradyuman played by Shivaji Satam. In May 2010, the show went bi-weekly. The show now airs three days a week, (Fri – Sun) and has completed 17 years by January 2015 and 1,246 episodes as of June 30, 2015.
CID set a record when the director BP Singh filmed an entire episode named The Inheritance in a single shot of 111 minutes without a cut on Nov 7, 2004. The episode was shot between 6.30 pm and 8.20 pm on Oct 8, 2004 at Lonavala, Maharashtra and was telecast on Nov 7, 2004, without a break from 8.00 pm.
Moreover, CID has been dubbed into Telugu and broadcast on MAA TV. The Malayalam version is telecast on Surya TV and the Tamil version on Zee Tamil. A Bengali adapted version of CID known as CID Kolkata Bureau airs on Sony Aath. CID also airs in Pakistan on Apna Channel, A-Plus Entertainment and Geo Kahani.
