Vembanad Rail Bridge near Kochi in Kerala, completed in October 2009, is 4.62 km long. It forms part of the 8.86 km rail link connecting Edappally station on the mainland to Vallarpadam International Container Trans-shipment Terminal, built mostly over the Vembanad Lake (backwaters) and small islands. Built by Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd, the bridge has 132 spans and stands mostly on pile foundations.
