The Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Garden, Kolkata, originally 'The Hon'ble Company's Botanic Garden, Calcuta,' and then the 'Royal Botanical Gardens' in the 1860s, was estabblished in 1787 at Howrah in West Bengal, with abouot 12,000 living plants and over 2.5 million dried plant specimens in the herbarium, from all over the world. The gardens cover 112 hectares (276.75 acres) in 25 sections.
