The Government of India launched plans for Ayushman Bharat Yojana, a national health protection scheme targetted towards 100 million poor and vulnerable families, in February 2018. It will offer reimbursements of upto Rs. 500,000 per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization for up to 500 million beneficiaries (nearly 40 per cent of India's population). The government will also launch 150,000 health and wellness centres for accessible medical care, with free essential drugs and diagnostic services. Overall, Rs. 12 billion have been allocated for this programme.
