Delhi tops the country in ATM density with 52 ATMs per 100,000 people, followed by Tamil Nadu (35 ATMs per 100,000 people) and Karnataka, with 29 ATMs for every 100,000 people. As a whole, India has 18 ATMs per 100,000 of the population. This is significantly less than countries such as China, Brazil, Japan and Australia- which have 63, 81, 107 and 132 ATMs per 100,000 people respectively. The penetration of ATMs in India is also much more in metro and urban centres, rather than in rural areas, with the skew being 52:11 (in favour of urban areas) per 100,000 of the population.
