INS Kursura, a Kalavari Class diesel-electric submarine, was decommissioned after 31 years of service and inaugurated as a museum at Ramakrishna Mission Beach in Visakhapatnam, Andra Pradesh, home station to Indian submarines, in 2001. The first such museum in Asia, it gives viditors the chance to board a submarine and see its weaponry, machinery and operations. A veteran of the Indo-Pakistan war of 1971, despite being decommissioned, it still receives the Indian Navy's 'Dressing Ship' honour, usually only awarded to active ships.
