Flying Officer Avani Chaurvedi became the first Indian woman to fly a fighter aircraft, an MiG-21 Bison, on her first solo flight on 21 February 2018. She undertook the sortie from IAF's Jamnagar base. Flying Officer Bhawana Kanth who flies the same aircraft became the second woman combat pilot to achieve the feat on 16 March 2018. She took off from Ambala Air Force Station. Along with the two, Mohana Singh has also been selected for the programe.
