INS Kavaratti, the latest anti-submarine warfare class stealth corvette was launched on May 19, 2015. Designed at the Directorate of Naval Design, it was built by Garden Reach Ship Builders and Engineers at a cost of Rs 7,800 crore. The 90% indigenous corvette is 109.1 m long and has a displacement of 3,300 tonnes. Propelled by four diesel engines, it can exceed 25 knots and has an endurance of more than 3,400 nautical miles. Kavaratti is the first to have a rail-less Helo Traversing System and Foldable Hangar door. It can fight under nuclear, chemical and biological warfare conditions.
