Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) in Chhattisgarh, operating under Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL), is the largest rail manufacturer with an annual production capacity of 31.53 lakh tonnes of saleable steel including rails and heavy steel plates. It also holds the distinction of being the 11- times winner of Prime Minister’s Trophy for best integrated steel plant. The ISO 9001:2000-certified plant commissioned a long rail welding machine on Feb 25, 2005 and became the first public sector plant to produce 260 m long rail tracks. The almost entire network of Indian Railways runs on rails supplied by BSP.
