Days before the May 26, 2015 deadline, IAF used its own money to buy back the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) and war medals of the World War II veteran Wg Cdr Karun Krishna or Jumbo Majumdar from auction house Morton and Eden. Jumbo Majumdar is fondly revered as the father of the modern IAF, contributing extensively during World War II both in Burma and in the Normandy campaigns. He was the first and the only IAF pilot to be awarded Distinguished Flying Cross and Bar. The IAF’s Air Attache in London struck the deal with the auction house.
