Rachel Thomas (b 9 August 1955) from Chittranjan, West Bengal, was the first Indian woman to skydive from 2133.6 m (7,000 ft) over the North Pole on the 20 April 2002, to commemorate 150 years of the Indian Railways. An employee of Indian Railways, she was also the first woman to compete for the country in a skydiving competition in 1987. She was later honoured with the Padma Shri award in 2005.
