Lieutenant Kiran Shekhawat (25) of the Navy was killed during a training sortie of a Dornier aircraft which crashed off the Goa coast on March 25, 2015. Originally from Sefarguwar village in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, Kiran was married to Lieutenant Vivek Singh Chokker of Kurthala. She was in the combat role as an observer flying tactical sorties over the ocean, tracking and engaging with radars and sensors hostile ships violating India’s maritime boundaries. Her body was cremated with full military honours at Kurthala on March 30, 2015.
