Mobile Seva, the mobile governance initiative of the Department of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India won the second prize at the United Nations Public Service Awards in 2014. The win was in the category of Promoting Whole-of-Government Approaches in the Information Age. Mobile Seva which facilitates use of mobile network to provide government services to citizens and businesses was launched on Dec 23, 2013. Around 1,809 government agencies are using the SMS services with over 54.5 crore SMS notifications sent out. An app store was also launched with around 588 applications like Voter Search, Vaccination alerts, e-Books, Aadhar services etc. Applications are available across Android, Java, iOS and Windows platforms. 
The awards are given out by the UN General Assembly for exceptional achievement in public administration since 2003. India first won the award in 2005 for Bhagidari programme and in 2006 for the online land reports delivery by the Karnataka State Govt. (Note: Figures as per Govt reports)
