Former national champion Mairaj Ahmad Khan became the first skeet shooter to win an Olympic quota place for the country. He was placed 7th in the Shotgun World Championship in Lonato, Italy with a career best score of 122 out of 125. The 40-year-old Mairaj became the first shotgun shooter to book a Rio Games berth, and eighth overall after the pistol-rifle shooters Jitu Rai, Apurvi Chandela, Gagan Narang, Abhinav Bindra, Gurpreet Singh, Prakash Nanjappa and Chain Singh.
