Industrialist and Bharat Ratna J.R.D. Tata (1904–1993) was issued a pilot’s licence on 10 February 1929 by the Aero Club of India on behalf of the Federation Aeronautique Internationale. Founder of Tata Airlines, he also had the distinction of piloting the first commercial flight from Karachi (now in Pakistan) to Bombay (now Mumbai) in a singleseater D.H. Puss Moth on 15 October 1932.
