First Indian Winner of the Neustadt Prize

The Neustadt International Prize was established as the Books Abroad International Prize for Literature in 1969 by Ivar Ivask. It is one of few international prizes for which poets, novelists and playwrights are all equally eligible.

•Raja Rao was the first Indian to win the prize in 1988.
•Indian-Canadian writer Rohinton Mistry won the prize in 2012.
