Dr Naresh Trehan (b 12 August 1946) is a cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgeon. He performed the first successful heart-shrink surgery in Asia along with his team of cardio-surgeons on a 59-year-old patient, Mani Ram Gurera at the Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre, Delhi, on 31 May 1996. The surgery, which comprises removing a chunk of muscles from an enlarged heart, involves one-tenth the expense of a heart transplant.
