The country’s first district level e-court was opened at Karkardooma Courts, District East, Delhi on Feb 8, 2010. Implemented by C-DAC Noida under the guidance of Computer Committee of High Court of Delhi and a Project Monitoring and Review Committee, the pilot project was funded by TIFFAC, an autonomous body under Ministry of Science and Technology. The e-court has all its files digitised and made available to the judge on a touch screen. The documents can be projected on LCD screens so that others can also view them. It can connect to remote locations (such as other courts, jail, forensic lab, hospital etc) through video conferencing. The proceedings can be watched live and recorded for future too. An e-court can facilitate quicker disposal of cases, verify reliability of the evidence recorded and bring more transparency in the functioning of the court.
