On Jan 14, 2015, Indian Railways launched the first CNG powered train, the Rewari-Rohtak passenger train, hauled by a 1,400 hp engine that can run on both CNG and diesel. The daily train which runs the 81 km distance between Rewari and Rohtak in Haryana has six coaches manufactured at Integral Coach Factory, Chennai. The use of CNG can not only cut emissions but bring down the operating cost of the locomotive by 50%.
