The Indian 2,000-rupee banknote was released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on 8 November 2016 after the demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 banknotes. In circulation since 10 November 2016, it is part of the Mahatma Gandhi New Series of banknotes with a new design featuring Mangalyaan on the reverse. It is the highest currency note in active circulation, printed by the RBI.
