The Chhattisgarh Government has created a world record by planting 802.39 lakh trees or over 80 crore across the State during Vanmahotsava celebrations from 5 –20 July 2017. While the Forest Department and the Forest Development Corporation planted 689.39 lakh trees in Bilaspur, Durg, Kanker, Surguja, Jagdalpur and Raipur, other departments planted 113 lakh trees, supported enthusiastically by schools, colleges, Panchayats and common citizens. Surguja District goes green Surguja District of Chhattisgarh planted 37,71,988 saplings on 20 July 2017 fin seven blocks and 399 villages. In all 2,48,599 people ranging from government officials to school and college students, rural citizens, Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and commercials and industrial institutions participated in the plantation drive, spearheaded by the District Collector.
