The All India Institute of Medical Sciences(AII MS) is a medical college and medical research public university based in New Delhi. It was established in 1956 and operates autonomously under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and has many firsts to its credit: • First Indian centre to perform a successful cardiac transplant. The surgery was performed by P Venugopal, the former Director of AII MS in 1994. • India’s first and only minimally invasive surgery training centre, under collaboration with Germany. • The first in-vitro fertilization facility in the public sector set up in February 2008. • First to develop a DNA profiling lab in a medical college, in 1990. • First to start a medical toxicology lab in a medical college, in 1986.
