National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR), Hyderabad issued the first gender-neutral graduation certificate to a NALSAR graduate in June 2015. Instead of ‘Ms’, ‘Miss’, ‘Mr’ or ‘Mrs’, the certificate was awarded to ‘Mx’ Anindita Mukherjee as requested by the candidate. The pronoun ‘ze’ was used instead of ‘she.’ The examination department believed that this was a small step to recognise gender fluidity and self-identification. ‘Mx’ is an honorific that does not disclose the gender of the person it is used for.
