HONOURS ADOOR GOPALAKRISHNAN AND SANTOSH SIVAN AS ‘PEOPLE OF THE YEAR’
Kochi, July 1, 2013: Limca Book of Records unveiled the 2013 Malayalam edition of the record book as part of a special cultural programme organized at the Gokulam Convention Centre in Kochi. Being a ‘Cinema Special’ edition, the record book felicitated two of cinema’s greatest icons, Adoor Gopalakrishnan and Santosh Sivan for their invaluable contribution to Indian cinema. The two are also amongst the 20 People of the Year chosen for 2013 by the Limca Book of Records jury for the year. These dignitaries unveiled a magnificent ‘Collage Portrait’ of Limca Book of Records 2013 created by Manu Kallikad of Malappuram district in Kerala to mark the official launch of the 2013 edition of the book. A Limca Book of Record holder, Manu collects relevant articles and pictures to create collage portraits. The “collage portrait” was created without the use of scissors or cutter, paint or brush, much like all his other collage portraits. Manu also displayed some of his finest collage portraits at the venue including those of Sachin Tendulkar, Michael Jackson, Karl Marx etc.
The launch event was punctuated by a series of performances by Limca Book of Record holders, which kept the launch event buzzing. This included a Panchavadyam performance by Sopanam School of Panchavadhyam, Chenda recital by DileepSukapuram of Malappuram, ‘Mohiniyattam’ dance performance by KalamandalamHemalathaand a song sequence by Lakshmi Benson. A packed audience of more than 200 people regaled at each of these performances.
Launched in 1990, Limca Book of Records catalogues the extraordinary achievements of Indians and inspires people to achieve more. The 2013 edition is a “Cinema special” which has a separate section on cinema along with more than 10,000 records from various other fields,out of which 6,000 are new records, all showcasing extraordinary feats of Indians across the globe.
