Kolkata, 21st November, 2013: Starting today, football fever is set to grip Kolkata as Coca-Cola India unveils a month long celebration for the arrival of the Coca-Cola FIFA World Cup™ Trophy Tour in the city. On its global journey to share the passion of football across countries and cultures, the trophy will be making its pit-stop in Kolkata on 22nd December 2013. The City of Joy is gearing up for the D-Day with special events set to be held across the city in commemoration of the city’s passionate love for the sport of football. To mark the special occasion, Coca-Cola is also flying in former 1970 World Cup-winning Brazilian Captain Carlos Alberto Torres to be part of the tour and share his passion with the die-hard football fans of Kolkata. The solid gold FIFA World Cup™ Trophy’s arrival in India also coincides with the celebration of 20 years of Coca-Cola’s presence in the country and is a reaffirmation of the company’s commitment and support to the great, untapped football talent in India.
Coca-Cola India has always been associated with promoting healthy and active lifestyle through sports. The company has been partnering with the All India Football Federation (AIFF) since 2009 to organize the grassroots U-16 football tournament, The Coca-Cola Cup, to identify and nurture young soccer talent in the country. The initiative takes forward the Coca-Cola Company’s commitment to nurture potential football superstars of tomorrow by providing them with a platform and an opportunity to develop their inherent talent into a real-life profession. Over the last 4 seasons, the initiative has been successful in reaching over 50,000 young talented footballers across the country.
Over the next one month, football fans will get the opportunity to win tickets to the Trophy interaction to be held on December 23rd. The ticket will give them a chance to get up-close and personal with the authentic, solid-gold trophy presented to the FIFA World Cup-winning country every four years. At a special event marking the beginning of the football frenzy in Kolkata, Coca-Cola India gave out the first ticket to the lucky fan. The dignitaries then flagged off the Coca-Cola Cup of Joy canter which will visit hotspots across the city till 19th December, 2013 with fun games and give away tickets to see the trophy.

Mr. Mitra further added, “We will be also be holding the Coca-Cola Under 17 tournament to promote and bring forth the undiscovered talent at the grassroots level; and give a chance to the deserving youth of Kolkata.”
Coca-Cola unveiled multiple activations for the football loving city of Kolkata in celebration of the Tour coming to the city. These include an inter-para competition for football fans to express their love for the game. The initiative will allow 15 selected paras to design a Cup of Joy Zone and host a special event celebrating the Coca-Cola FIFA World Cup™ Trophy Tour. Later in December, the company will also launch a music contest inviting football fanatics to compose their own rendition of a theme song for the 2014 FIFA World Cup™.
Football’s most coveted prize will be covering 88 countries this year – its longest journey to date. Kolkata will be playing host to the Trophy for the 2nd time starting 22nd to 24th December, 2013.
