Coke Studio@MTV Season III Music Producers
A R Rahman:
I am excited to be a part of Coke Studio@MTV, Season 3 – a show that is a part of many cultures ranging from Tibet to the Middle East. Coke Studio celebrates diversity coming together to music that appeals to an even broader segment of people. My compositions for Season 3 of Coke Studio@MTV celebrate cultures, under the overarching theme of happiness. I teamed up with Prasoon & Late Valee sir (Tamil Lyricist) to create the lyrics for a couple of my songs on happiness and am pleased with the outcome. Composing for this show is a continuation of my quest to broaden my horizons and keep adding a dash of freshness to my music.
Amit Trivedi:
Composing for Coke Studio@MTV gives me the same feeling as I used to have when I would strum the strings of the guitar for sheer pleasure. No boundaries, no definitions. Just the drive to create music for creative satisfaction and enjoyment. All credit to Coca-Cola and MTV for conceptualizing a format that provides creative freedom and therefore the chance to create a new genre of music.
Salim Sulaiman:
One of the things that is striking about this country is that like its languages, its music also has a local quotient. Even in the genre of traditional and classical music, the nuances change depending on the geography. Coke Studio@MTV encouraged us to explore these nuances and then bring them together through renditions that have universal appeal. Also, being a platform that allows musicians to experiment, it provides immense creative satisfaction.
Hitesh Sonik:
Coke Studio@MTV has come as a shot in the arm for music composers. For too long, musical creativity has been led by specific briefs. Coke Studio@MTV allows for longer format songs, fusion compositions, using local and traditional musical instruments etc. Season 2 of Coke Studio@MTV gave me immense creative satisfaction and I wanted to build upon that experience in Season 3. I am happy with what we have been able to create this year and I am hoping that this season also gets us critical as well as popular acclaim.
I have been associated with Coke Studio@MTV since its inception in India and am very glad to be a part of this interesting initiative all through these last 3 years.
This platform has been a forward journey for me, from being part of some interesting music created by some of the leading musicians in the country to being one of the Producers this season creating 6 songs for one whole episode. I want to acknowledge and appreciate the freedom given to me by Coca-Cola and MTV to create some very interesting beats n melodies which has been immensely satisfying and I hope this association continues in the future.”
Clinton Cerejo:
One of the things that gave me immense satisfaction while I was composing music for Coke Studio@MTV, Season 2 was when I was able to get together a Gospel choir to team up with Saawan Khan. Those are the things that I could only have done on a platform as distinct and as experimentative as Coke Studio@MTV. I have done some experiments in production, vocal arrangement and fusion for Season 3. I am looking forward to how the audience receives it. But what is more important for me, is that Coke Studio@MTV is allowing me to grow as an artist.
Ram Sampath:
When I first spoke to the MTV & Coke team about the concept of my episode , DEVI , I had specific genres of eclectic music with specific singers celebrating different forms of feminine energies, I expected them to end the meeting politely & avoid meeting me for the rest of their lives . Instead , I got an enthusiastic Okay , which really surprised & heartened me. For me , the platform ‘Coke Studio At MTV’ is about connecting the past with the future & I have truly enjoyed painting a canvas with sounds & tunes with some fabulous world class singers & musicians.
Coke Studio@MTV, Season 3 was launched in Mumbai today by the music producers along with Sukhwinder Singh, lyricist, screenplay writer and adman Prasoon Joshi along with Coca-Cola Happiness Ambassadors – Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Siddhartha Malhotra.
Launching Coke Studio@MTV, Season 3, Alia Bhatt, said, “The beauty of being associated with Coca-Cola is that one thing leads to another and all of it is aimed at making this world a happy place. Earlier this year, we were sharing Coca-Cola with complete strangers, giving them that moment of refreshment and upliftment. Today, we have this opportunity to share happiness via this song from Coke Studio@MTV. I thank Coca-Cola, MTV and the music producers for using music to make this world a better place”
Varun Dhawan, Coca-Cola Happiness Ambassador at the launch said, “I thank the music producers for getting together to create the sounds of Coke Studio@MTV, Season 3. This year we have got some of India’s best music talents to do what they like doing – composing music that they would want to hear. We are hoping that the audience too will like the compositions, as they have done it in the past two seasons.”
Aditya Swamy, EVP and Business Head, MTV India said “3 years, 150 songs and countless magical moments… It’s been an incredible journey and today Coke Studio at MTV has become the definitive platform for Independent music in the country. Giving the audience a glimpse into what they can expect in the upcoming season, the launch of Coke Studio@MTV Season 3 saw the unveiling of the happiness song – ‘Zariya’ – composed by A R Rahman, with lyrics by Prasoon Joshi. Based around the theme of motherhood and compassion, this track gives a whole new spin to the term ‘world music’.
Prasoon Joshi, Chairman, CEO and Chief Creative Officer of McCann World group India and South Asia, said, “It’s always special to work with A R Rahman. We connect and this time even more since it’s for a brand which is very close to me. Coke Studio brings together very different genres of music just like brand Coca-Cola, which brings people together. Also as a songwriter I have tried to express what I feel about the world today in these songs – faith that there is basic goodness in all of us and that will never be lost.”
Building the excitement prior to the on-air launch, the song ‘Bismillah’ a sufi-influenced composition by Salim-Sulaiman will be announced on the occasion of Eid.
Independence Day will be celebrated by Coke Studio@MTV with the song ‘Jagaao Mere Des’ by A R Rahman and written by Prasoon Joshi, who was inspired by late poet Rabindranath Tagore’s poem ‘Mind without fear’.
This being just a teaser, Coke Studio@MTV Season 3 will witness the perfect amalgamation of different genres of music and styles. The song ‘Shehar’, completely symbolizes Amit Trivedi’s knack for discovering melodies where there are none, Clinton Cerejo’s ‘Aisi Bani’ is an interesting composition using the 3 distinct voices of Bianca, Sonu Kakkar and Vijay Prakash. Bringing a whole new level of fresh African rhythms and funk to his composition, Papon teams up with Benny Dayal for the song ‘Tauba’ – an extremely catchy track! ‘Haal’ composed by Hitesh Sonik brings to life the energy of the most powerful Punjabi voices making it one bouncy music track. Ram Sampath’s ‘Kattey’ brings an interesting collaboration by mixing two completely different musical worlds – Bhanvari Devi’s complete traditional but powerhouse, Rajasthani vocal, fuses with Hard Kaur’s true-to-form rapping skills to give a track which is an over burst of energy, unlike anything you’ve heard before!
