The school has been revitalized with assistance from The Coca-Cola Foundation and new campaign partner Plan India who joined the campaign at the launch of Season 2 in August, 2012
The revitalized school in Varanasi was provided facilities such as upgraded separate functional toilets for boys and girls, improved access to water, facilities for the encouragement of physical sports and recreation, and a structure for rain water harvesting
Varanasi, March 21st, 2013: In its bid to build active, healthy and happy schools across rural and semi-urban India, Coca-Cola India, in association with Plan India, dedicated the Mehdiganj Primary school at Rajatalab, Varanasi under Season 2 of its flagship Support My School initiative. The second edition of the campaign was kicked off in August, 2012 and concluded a successful telethon in February 2013, which helped raise pledges to revitalize 272 schools. These schools will now be revitalized through facilities such as separate toilets for boys and girls, improved access to water and more. The school at Varanasi has been revitalized with assistance from The Coca-Cola Foundation and new campaign partner Plan India.
Support My School has received nationwide success with the revitalization of over 100 schools over Season 1, which touched the lives of more than 43,000 students across 10 states. The Mehdiganj Primary school at Rajatalab, Varanasi was dedicated to the children and community by Mr. Pranjal Yadav, District Magistrate, Varanasi and Mr. Mayank Arora, Zonal Vice President, Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Pvt. Ltd and Mr. Siddharth Johri from Plan India.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Pranjal Yadav, District Magistrate, Varanasi said, “It is crucial to provide children with a healthy and safe environment where they can learn and grow. The schools in our towns and villages lack the most basic infrastructure and amenities to attract and retain students. In such a scenario, the Support My School campaign is a novel concept to bring better facilities to the lives of these children. I would like to extend my congratulations to Coca-Cola India, Plan India and all the campaign partners who are working hard to improve the quality of life for rural kids and encourage them to stay in school.”

About Support My School Campaign
Coca-Cola India joined hands with NDTV to launch Support My School in association with UN-Habitat, Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), Pearson Foundation and Tata Teleservices. It undertakes the following core activities:
Provision of improved access to water
Appropriate sanitation facility for girls and boys
Improvement in the overall infrastructure and environment
Provision for sports and recreation facilities and
Recharging groundwater through rainwater harvesting
With such necessary amenities in place, schools are able to provide a cleaner and healthier environment more conducive to learning.
Education in rural India suffers from several issues where lack of sanitation is a key reason for absenteeism and dropouts amongst students. This is especially noted in young girls who are forced to quit as they enter adolescence due to a lack of clean and functional toilets. Children are also likely to fall sick more often without clean water to drink or to wash hands. Support My School endeavors to eliminate this basic concern by spreading the initiative across the country with the help of campaign partners to execute the same.
