Ludhiana Beverages Pvt. Ltd. celebrated World Environment Day with the people of Balachaur, District Nawanshahr with presentation of an “Environment Save” seminar on pollution prevention and tree plantation in the Balachaur city; Employees to carry out vehicle pools for a week

Activity part of Coca-Cola India’s nationwide celebrations to mark the day with focus on energy efficiency and need for renewable energy to drive business sustainability
Balachaur, 2nd June 2013: On the occasion of World Environment Day, Coca-Cola India came together with bottling partners to drive energy efficiency across its operations in the country, with a focus on the need for renewable energy to drive business sustainability. In celebration of this landmark day in Balachaur, Coca-Cola India in association with Ludhiana Beverages Pvt. Ltd., conducted a “Save Environment” seminar to create awareness on pollution prevention and tree plantation in the city. Employees of the company will also be coming together to carry out vehicle pools for one week, in a bid to conserve energy.
15000 people from the Balachaur town, District Nawanshahr were educated on conservation of plants and trees. An exhibition showcasing 108 different species of herbal plants was held, and 2100 plants were also distributed. These activities are a step forward on Coca-Cola’s 2020 targets for energy efficiency.

Ltd., Mr. S.D. Chhabra , CEO, Ludhiana Beverages Pvt. Ltd., Mr. D.P. Singh, Senior VP, Sales and Marketing, Ludhiana Beverages Pvt. Ltd and Rajneet Kolhi, Director, Coca-Cola India.
Speaking about the celebrations, Ms. Shalini Goenka, Executive Director, Ludhiana Beverages Pvt. Ltd. said, “Energy conservation is one of the toughest challenges our world is facing today. We believe businesses have the capability and resources to help mitigate this risk. Our efforts towards this focus on involving local communities to drive the change. This way, we can empower the most impoverished areas with renewable energy. With this initiative, we hope to create a positive effect on the ecology of the area. I sincerely wish that the community will take the work forward and help us in carving an energy-efficient future.”

Over the years, Coca-Cola India and its bottling partners have been involved in several energy-efficient initiatives across the country. The company’s efforts on this path include installation of more than 1000 “eKOcool” solar coolers in areas with power shortage, by end of this year.
The solar coolers are placed specially with women-led outlets as part of Coca-Cola’s 5by20 program, which aims to empower 5 million women by 2020. By installing solar coolers at women-run outlets, Coca-Cola is economically empowering women retailers to earn a livelihood and simultaneously using renewable energy. The Solar Cooler comes with inbuilt mobile charger and solar lantern, which then helps her use renewable energy for herself, family members and customers and stay connected for her personal and business needs. The solar lantern helps her to keep her shop open longer, well after the sunset, and serve her customers better.
The presentation of the solar coolers is an initiative under Coca-Cola’s global 5by20 program which aims to empower 5 million women by 2020, within The Coca-Cola system.
