 INS Sumitra is the presidential yacht of India, the fourth and last Saryu class patrol vessel, designed and constructed at Goa Shipyard Limited. Biggest Naval Offshore Patrol Vessel to be developed at this shipyard, she was handed over to the Navy at Chennai on Sept 4, 2014. With the growing economic and strategic importance of the region, this is the first major ship based at Chennai. Her primary role is surveillance of the Exclusive Economic Zone. She also undertakes anti-piracy patrols, fleet support operations, maritime security of off-shore assets and escort operations. Like the others in her class, she has one 76 mm super rapid gun mount and two AK 630 Close In Weapon Systems besides either one Dhruv or a Chetak helicopter for which there is a helipad. Her first commanding officer is Milind Mokashi. She is administered by nine officers and 105 sailors.
