 Fast attack craft INS Tarmugli, named after an island in the Andaman group, was commissioned at the Eastern Naval Command on May 23, 2016. The indigenously conceived, designed and built ship will be based in Visakhapatnam and deployed for coastal patrol and surveillance operations along the eastern coast. INS Tarmugli is the first Follow-on Water Jet Fast Attack Craft (WJFAC) built by Garden Reach Ship builders and Engineers Ltd (GRSE). The 320 tonne ship, measuring 48 m, can touch at least 30 knots. It can operate in shallow waters at high speeds. It has advanced MTU engines, water jet propulsion and modern communication equipment. It is armed with a 30 mm CRN 91 gun manufactured by Ordnance Factory Medak. It is equipped with two 12.7 mm heavy machine guns and multiple medium machine guns and shoulderlaunched Igla surface-to-air missiles to combat aerial threat. It is manned by four officers and 41 sailors. Commander Sreejith S Nair is its first Commanding Officer.
