 India’s telecommunications system is the second largest in the world, after China with both government and private operators offering telecom services. The country’s total telephone subscriber base grew to approximately 105.93 crore by March 31, 2016. The overall tele-density (telephones per 100 people) stood at 83.4%. Wireless and broadband Internet continued to be the driving force behind this growth in telephony with the user base reaching 33 crore in March 2016.
