India won five gold, two silver and three bronze medals in the World University Shooting Championship in Bydgoszcs, Poland in September 2016. Vinita Bhardwaj beat World No1 Yi Siling of China by 0.2 for the gold in women’s air rifle. She also helped the Indian team along with Simran Chahal and Dilreen Gill to the team gold.
Akhil Sheoran who had narrowly missed winning an Olympic quota for the Rio Games, won the men’s air rifle gold. Along with Ekambir Singh and Manpreet Singh, Akhil won the team gold as well. The fifth gold for India came in men’s standard pistol team event through Bhavesh Shekhawat, who had an individual bronze too, Ajitesh Kaushal and Arpit Goel.
Anjum Moudgil (pic) won silver in women’s rifle 3- position and the trio of Sanjeet Kaur, Mahima Kumar and Aakriti Khapra won the women’s trap team silver. India won team bronze medals in women’s skeet and men’s trap.
