Dr Khurshid Imam, Assistant Professor of Hebrew at the Centre for Arabic and African Studies, School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi is the only teacher of Hebrew to hold a tenured position in Indian academia. Scholarships from the Israeli government and funds dedicated to former Prime Minister Golda Meir supported his education at the Hebrew University, Jerusalem during 1998-2000. He specialised in Hebrew Language and Culture, Hebrew Studies and Semitic languages and has been teaching Hebrew in different capacities for over 10 years at JNU.
