When the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of North Police Station Tirupur accepted the offer of his India-born philanthropist friend for a donation of books for a children’s library as with the advent of the internet and e-books printed books are of no value anywhere now, little did he realize that there would be a bonanza. More than 5,000 books from various school libraries in the US were transported to India. Right away almost 2,000 books were gifted to the Rotary Club. The rest of the books were numbered and sorted under various categories by the policemen. These were then stacked in shelves set up in the middle of a large hall in the police station. Principals of local schools were informed about the opening of the library and very soon school children started borrowing the books for a period of 15 days. The Police Station Library follows the working hours of North Police Station!
