 Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai, the public sector rail coach manufacturing unit established under the Ministry of Railways in 1955, crossed the milestone of 50,000 coaches on July 6, 2015 to become the first coach manufacturer in the world to achieve it. Suresh Prabhu, Union Minister of Railways flagged off the 50,000th coach at ICF premises in Chennai through video conferencing from Rail Bhawan, New Delhi. With an output capacity of about 1,700 coaches a year, ICF manufactures a variety of coaches ranging from General Second Class to the latest A/c coaches, A/c EMUs, MEMUs and high horsepower DEMU train sets.
