Maendra JA Alvares (b March 1, 1958) of Loutolim, Salcete Goa made a 9 x 5 ft cement sculpture from March 1 – 13, 2016 titled Sangam at Ancestral Goa, Big Foot, Loutolim – Goa. It represents the face of the Buddha crowned with Jesus Christ’s crown of thorns, the River Ganga flowing out of Shiva’s tresses, with Islam represented by the moon. It symbolizes the existence of different religions worshipping one God, as different rivers meet the sea to form the ocean. The unique feature of this sculpture is that it closes its eyes and smiles as one draws near it.
