Orphix-Kiniko (Nekizhithirai in Tamil), was an event organised at the Dr MGR indoor Stadium, Sathyabama University, Chennai. For this the students created a backdrop with 100,104 brightly-coloured PET bottle caps of 648 sq ft (36 x 18 ft) on August 8-9, 2015 (precursor to August 15, Independence Day) as a tribute to the late Dr A P J Abdul Kalam who had addressed the students at that very venue in December 2014. The caps were hung vertically from a steel frame in two layers denoting the sky and ground. Three schools (Little Flower Convent, Government School, Chitlapakkam, PUMS at Nallambakkam) with 265 children, 350 students from the university and 10 faculty members worked on the theme, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Orphix-Kiniko is derived from the art movement – Orphism.
